Investor Information | management

David C. Anderson, P.Geo
Executive Chairman and Director

Mr. Anderson has worked in the mining and exploration industry since 1974. He has a diploma in Geology and a B.Sc. in Geophysics. In 1986, after 12 years of contract geophysical work throughout the world, Mr. Anderson co-founded Quantec Geoscience Ltd. (“Quantec”). Quantec specializes in the development and application of advanced geoscience technologies.

In 1991 Mr. Anderson was invited to Mongolia to meet with government officials to discuss the privatization of the government geologic service branch. During this trip and subsequent trips in the early 90’s, Mr. Anderson and his associates recognized the mineral potential of the country which led to the formation of QGX Ltd. in 1994. Mr. Anderson, a co-founding shareholder of QGX Ltd., held the CEO role from inception until August, 2006 when he became the Executive Chairman.

During his time as CEO the company has discovered:

  1. Three advanced-staged exploration properties which have been joint ventured to Ivanhoe.
  2. Golden Hills, a Cu-Au-Ag project in western Mongolia which became the fourth hard-rock mineral discovery in the country.
  3. Baruun Naran, a promising coal project located 22 km southwest of Tavan Tologi, the largest undeveloped coal project in Asia.

Paul L. Zweng, B.Sc., M.Sc., Ph.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer

Dr. Paul Zweng has blended a technical and financial background in exploration and mining over the past 18 years. He first joined QGX in 2003 as the Chief Operating Officer during which time he developed QGX’s two flagship projects, Baruun Naran (metallurgical and thermal coal) and Golden Hills (Cu-Au-Ag). In August, 2006 Dr. Zweng assumed the role of President and Chief Executive Officer.

Dr. Zweng was a Research Analyst and later Partner at Palo Alto Investors, a hedge fund based in California from 1999 until late 2002. While at Palo Alto Investors, Dr. Zweng conducted due diligence and lead investment decisions on mining and exploration as well as technology companies. He was featured twice in Barron’s “Plugged In” column (31 Aug 1999; 6 Sept 1999). Dr. Zweng also was the winner of the last Wall Street Journal “Heard in California” stock-picking contest (Jan-Jun 2000: +17.4%) before the contest was discontinued.

Dr. Zweng led BHP Copper’s new business development efforts in the Copperbelt of Africa from 1997 until 1999. He formulated BHP Copper’s African strategy, conducted financial and technical evaluations of African copper projects, developed business relationships with DR Congo and Zambian government officials, and recommended asset acquisitions to senior management. These efforts led to BHP securing the Tenke Fungurume project, one of the world’s richest and largest copper-cobalt deposits.

From 1995 until 1997, Dr. Zweng was the Manager of Exploration & Geology of BHP’s Cu-Au-Ag mine, Tintaya, Peru. He helped to grow Tintaya into one of the world’s largest copper skarn districts by discovering over 150 million tonnes of high-grade ore, including enough copper-oxide ore to support the building of an SX-EW operation. He managed the mine geology and annual budgets of > $10 million with workforce of over 80 employees and contractors.

After working throughout the Western United States, Mexico, and South America as an employee and consulting geologist for a number of large mining companies, Dr. Zweng in 1988 became the founder, CEO and Chairman of Patagonia Exploration, a California-based exploration company focused on mineral exploration in southernmost Chile and Argentina. During 1988-1995, Dr. Zweng discovered two mineral prospects, with one optioned to Echo Bay Mines.

He received two B.Sc. degrees with distinction in Geology and Applied Earth Sciences (Mineral Economics) from Stanford University (California) in 1980, a M.Sc. degree in Geology from Queen’s University (Ontario) in 1984 and a Ph.D. in Applied Earth Sciences (Ore Deposits) from Stanford University (California) in 1993. Dr. Zweng has published several articles and abstracts on geology and ore deposits in two languages in scientific journals.

Dr. Zweng is a director and founder of Antares Minerals Inc.
